Abstract

Virtual teams are becoming a key part of many businesses because of globalization, new technologies, and the demand for more flexible workspaces. In the last ten years, research on virtual teams has evolved a lot, revealing many patterns that explain how they are set up, how they work, and what they achieve. This study consolidates a decade of research on virtual teams, organizing the results into ten principal themes: communication, trust, leadership, technology, performance, cultural diversity, team composition, conflict management, collaboration tools, and well-being. The study identifies ten promising opportunities for future research by analyzing these themes. These include the use of artificial intelligence in virtual collaboration, the role of emotional intelligence in virtual leadership, and ways to make remote work more inclusive and resilient. This thorough study not only brings together what has been learned in the past, but it also lays out a plan for how to deal with new problems and make the most of new chances in virtual team research.
