Abstract

Crises and crisis management have long piqued the curiosity of organizational researchers. Research on crisis management, crisis antecedents, and crisis outcomes has produced many significant conclusions. However, the research in this area is still dispersed, which makes it challenging for academics to comprehend the primary findings of the literature, identify open issues, and choose future directions. We provide an integrated framework of crises and crisis management to address these problems, drawing on corporate communication and public relations research as well as organizational behavior, strategy, and organizational theory studies. We distinguish between two main viewpoints in the literature: one that concentrates on managing external stakeholders and the other on the internal dynamics of a crisis. We go over the main ideas from each viewpoint and draw attention to their similarities. Lastly, we suggest potential study avenues for academics with an interest in crises and crisis management using our integrative framework.
