Abstract

The importance of various forms of innovation on businesses' export success is the main subject of this research. Although the link between innovation and performance has been extensively studied, the consequences of organizational innovations have received less attention than those of technical advances. Using data from 218 Swedish export initiatives, structural equation modelling is used to examine hypotheses on the link between organizational and technical advances and business export success. The findings show that by maintaining technical innovation, organizational innovation improves export performance both directly and indirectly. Furthermore, we demonstrate how organizational innovation enhances both the radicalness and extensiveness of technological innovation by fine-tuning our analysis of the mediating role of technological innovation based on its radicalness and extensiveness. Notably, however, only extensiveness is beneficial for export performance. By producing new evidence about the mechanisms through which organizational and technological innovations may improve export performance, this study adds to the body of research on international business and marketing and helps address the dearth of studies looking at the relationships between various forms of innovation and export performance.
