Abstract

Ten percent of individuals throughout the globe have non-restorative sleep (NRS), which makes them tired physically and mentally and makes their sleep quality worse. This is the first human research that looked at how an extract of ashwagandha (Withania somnifera Dunal L.) affects the overall quality of sleep in people with NRS.

In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled research, 150 healthy participants with elevated scores on non-restorative sleep metrics received 120 mg of standardized ashwagandha extract (Shoden®) daily for 6 weeks. The Restorative Sleep Questionnaire-weekly version and the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Bref scale were used to rate the subjects. We utilized sleep actigraphy to find out how long it took to fall asleep, how well we slept, how long we slept, and how long we woke up after falling asleep. Testing of vital signs, hematological, biochemistry, and urine analysis was used to find out whether the therapy was safe.
